AT219 Remote ID Fact Check (Lab 1)

 Michael Holland Introduction Remote ID is a technology that broadcasts the drone's location, altitude, and identity. This allows other people to see where the drone is. There are three methods for complying. The first method is Standard Remote ID, which is where the Remote ID is broadcast as a part of the drone's hardware and software. In other words, it is "built-in". The second method of compliance if you have a drone without Standard RID is to buy a separate module that you can attach to the drone. This is called a "broadcast module". The third method is for drones without Remote ID. You can operate one of these drones in an FAA- Recognized Identification Area, which is an area exempt from the Remote ID requirements. Working with Ground Control Points (AT309 Week 12)

In the lab, we worked with Ground Control Points which allow the data processing to be more accurate by spreading out "anchor points" throughout the area that contains known locations. Below is my notes is how to add GCPs into Pix4D Mapper software.  -Download data from t drive/class data and put it onto the computer's C drive or an external hard drive. -Open the turffarmNov2 Excel CSV file, copy columns A-E and paste it into a new excel file. Mavic vs Skydio 3D scans (AT309 Week 7)

For this lab, my lab partner and I completed a total of 5 3D scans using a DJI Mavic 2 Pro and a Skydio S2+. We conducted 2D mapping missions, 3D object scans, and 3D orbit scans. The purpose of this was to compare the two platforms. 2D Mapping Missions: We first used the Skydio S2+ to conduct a mapping mission of a small section of a parking lot at the William H. Daniel Turfgrass Research and Diagnostic Center. After that, we used the DJI Mavic 2 Pro to conduct 2 scans of the same area- one being a lawnmower grid and the other being an opposing grid scan. Both scans were fairly easy to set up, but the main difference we noticed was that the Mavic 2 Pro was able to set up the scan on the ground using Pix4D Capture, while the Skydio had to take off before it could set up the scan. This makes a large difference in battery life, with the Mavic 2 Pro being more efficient. Specific details on how we set up these scans can be found in the lab report.
